Baseline the source estate: database versions, schema objects, data volumes, change rates, integrations and critical business transactions. Identify dependencies that determine sequencing.

Design the target and select a transfer approach against compatibility, connectivity and the permitted interruption window. Evaluate ongoing replication only where source and target capabilities support it.

Rehearse the migration and validate at an agreed consistency point. Reconcile data and investigate exceptions; compare representative application transactions and batch processing with the source baseline.

Prepare an executable cutover runbook with responsibilities, checkpoints and rollback criteria. Define post-transition monitoring, issue escalation and the conditions for operational acceptance.
